“How-To” Project:  Dipping Cars

I start with some room temperature water, and Borax soap.  I am using HOK paint, but any oil base paint works.  It must be thinned out.  This is a large scale body, so I had to use the large bucket.  For 1:64 scale cars, I use a coffee can.

Next, I mix in the borax and mix it up good. Add some paint. You have to work quick, or the paint dries up.

Dip the car into the mix, make sure while car is under the water to swirl the car to clear a spot to pull car out.

I then rinse with a little warm water, I just cup the water in my hand and rinse car.

I use a white base on most of the dips, the colors look better to me. The falcon was a grey base.

I let the car dry and use 1200 grit to sand it, very little. Then I clear coat. I will wet sand and clear at least 2 more times to get it smooth.
